Edison Herbert is a UK jazz guitarist, composer and bandleader. Mentored by George Benson and featured on Sky Arts’ Guitar Star, he leads quartet and trio performances that combine original compositions with personal interpretations of jazz standards and contemporary songs.

A life shaped
by music.
Born in Leeds, Edison studied classical piano at Yorkshire College of Music before receiving a scholarship to the Guildhall School of Music & Drama. His early jazz experience included performing with the Guildhall Big Band alongside Randy Brecker at Ronnie Scott’s and joining the Jazz Warriors.
The influence of Wes Montgomery, Grant Green and George Benson runs through his playing, alongside the gospel, soul and Caribbean sounds that have helped shape his musical outlook. Melody remains at the heart of his approach, with space for lyrical improvisation, rich harmony and conversation between the musicians.
Edison’s career spans jazz, soul, orchestral performance and theatre. He has performed with the Chineke! Orchestra, Courtney Pine, Omar, Alison Limerick and Elisabeth Troy. He served as musical director and arranger for Unforgettable, written by Clarke Peters and Larrington Walker, and played guitar in the West End production of Get Up, Stand Up! His composing work includes the BBC Radio 4 drama Spell Number Seven.
Across All I Need, Time For Love, My Favourite Tunes Vol. 1 and More Beautiful Each Day, Edison combines original writing with fresh interpretations of familiar songs. His recordings have received reviews from The Jazzmann, Making A Scene and Paris-Move.

Alongside performing and recording, Edison offers private online jazz guitar coaching and workshops for adult intermediate and experienced players. His teaching focuses on harmony, phrasing and improvisation, helping guitarists turn their knowledge into confident, expressive playing.
